Old vs. New (homes/livespaces)

Take a guess which side the Chaos Fairy falls on? *laugh*

Yep, I support fixing up old buildings…on top of the eco-friendly benefits, I’m an advocate for historic preservation.

I’m a bit bothered by the current trend where everything has to be brand-new…new houses and the resurgence of (gated and bland) suburban communities. Yuk. People have even said they don’t want to live in a house that somebody else has lived in.

So, here’s some articles I found that examine/study the benefits of restoring an older home (over building new).

And, if you have a historic home (or are looking to buy one), the National Trust is a good place to start.

Any other sites re: reusing/remodeling old homes you’d like to recommend?

  1. Yes, an old house is such a joy! My house was built in 1860 and I love all the quirky, crazy nooks and crannies. I live in a small town where new subdivisions have sprouted like mad. Everything is beige and grey. What happened to colours? People are afraid of that as well?

  2. I love my old house and would never trade it in for a new one. I love all the woodwork and originality over cookie cutters.
